1. WHAT'S NEW?
It's been a few months since one of these newsletters. I keep
kicking myself. I can't neglect YOU! I am convinced how important it is to stay in touch with friends, family, MY CUSTOMERS! Hello new Southern California subscribers. I can't thank you enough
for the warm reception! (Temperatures were in the 90's most days,
also. I met lots of new friends (and old) at Hollywood's Magic
Castle. What a thrill performing there. I worked with Stoil Stoilov of Bulgaria, Fay Presto and Mandy Muden of England, Peter morrison, John Carney, Bob Bolivar, and Juggler Bryson Lang.

5. NEWS RELEASE OF THE MONTH:
New Hampshire Magician Back from Burbank, Hollywood(For release – November 1, 2008)
New Hampshire Magician BJ Hickman returned recently from a 7 night engagement at Hollywood’s Magic Castle. The Magic Castle is the clubhouse for the Academy of Magical Arts; an organization devoted to the advancement of the ancient art of magic. The purpose of The Academy is to encourage and promote public interest in the art of magic, with particular emphasis on preserving its history as an art form, entertainment medium, and hobby. The Magic Castle is a lavishly appointed authentic Victorian mansion housing a restaurant that serves a critically acclaimed menu in an elegant manner and known to magicians all over the world as the premier magic venue. "This was my tenth year performing at The Magic Castle," according to New Hampshire based Hickman, “Every night is a story in itself.” says Hickman, “In addition to rubbing elbows with some famous magicians, The Castle is often visited by celebrities in the motion picture and television industries.”
Hickman rounded out his cross-country road trip with day shows at schools and parks and recreation departments in the Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Burbank communities. “It’s a busy schedule.” says Hickman, “On one typical day; I would have three shows in Burbank for children from Walt Disney Elementary School, George Washington Elementary, and a family show for Burbank Library, then back to Hollywood for three night shows at The Magic Castle.”
Magician BJ Hickman entertains family audiences primarily throughout New England. The success of three instructional videotapes has earned him invitations to lecture at conferences and conventions for colleagues. In recent years, BJ has taken his experience to the domain of speaking for various groups. In his humorous keynote presentation or workshop, "PediaTRICKS.com," he instructs children's health care professionals about keeping patients comfortable and relaxed in the doctor’s office. He and his family live in Dover.

We have been watching a tagged homing pigeon that has been residing in our front yard for about three weeks. He's either lost or taking a long rest before continuing his journey. He seems tame but not willing to join the magic act just yet. If you know who to contact regarding lost trained pigeons, let me know.

9. A FUNNY THING HAPPENED:
Warm fuzzies: I got an email from a lady who saw my show with her
grandson at Fryeburg Fair in Maine. She wrote, "My grandson was
really fascinated with you!! He really really liked the show and
couldnt believe some of those tricks!! All he kept saying was that
he saw some phonies but you are not, and "how did he do that,
Nanny?!?"

Above is a photo I took at the pool at Hollywood Hills Hotel where I called my headquarters. It is up the hill (Hollywood Heights) behind the Magic Castle and overlooking Los Angeles. The structure next to the pool is a 300 year old pagoda.
I took this photo from the deck of my hotel room in Hollywood, In the distance is the Griffith Observatory, a "beloved icon of Los Angeles and world leader in public astronomy." I read that since 1935, the Observatory has given tens of millions of visitors the opportunity to become observers.
